Facebook: Privacy Breach and Cyber Attacks.

Facebook is the most popular social media platform in the world with over 2.7 billion active accounts, Facebook T.V, Facebook Messenger, Facebook Marketplace, Instagram, Boomerang, and other media apps with in Facebook makes it fun, entertaining, a good place to share memories, promote your business, and stay up to date on news. But although Facebook is a great place for social interaction and entertainment there are many drawbacks associated with it.

With Facebook being the biggest social media platform, it is subject to cyber-attacks, scammers, hackers, and used to promote and spread propaganda. In terms of the article it is talking about Facebook and its privacy crisis. During the 2016 election Facebook made the news because they had knowledge of hacking and fake news to alter the 2016 election. In the article in the abstract on page 1 it expresses, “ In November 2018, The New York Times ran a front-page story describing how Facebook concealed knowledge and disclosure of Russian-linked activity and exploitation resulting in Kremlin led disruption of the 2016 and 2018 U.S elections, through the use of global hate campaigns and propaganda warfare.” Not only does this affect the election but it also affects the privacy of users, and the credibility of Facebook in numerous ways though they warn users in their disclaimer sections and the electronic contracts.

On page 35 of the article Facebook expresses to it’s users, “Security breaches and improper access to or disclosure of our data or users data, or other hacking and phishing attacks in our systems could harm our reputation and adversely affect our business.” With that Facebook has already warned it’s users that their privacy can be affected which is inevitable with the amount of users and people with the access to the internet a cyber-attack of some sort can and are bound to happen. But with the nature and timing of the attack this is not one out of the ordinary. The propaganda attack happened during a critical moment in history the 2016 presidential election. With Facebook being not only a source for connecting with people it also has media coverage from all different types of sources, whether they are well known sources, blog post, news report, new news website, and from individual people.
